Protect, Project of our heritage to get the maximum benefit out of Tourism potential in the region: Anirudh Sravan
KALABURAGI; Regional Commissioner and the Secretary of the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB) Mr P Anirudh Sravan said that protecting and projecting the heritage was the key word to tap the maximum of the tourism potential available in the region.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme to inaugurate the short duration Tourist Guide Training programme in the Sharnbasva University in Kalaburagi city on Friday, Mr Sravan said that Kalyana Karnataka region has all the potential to be a major tourist attraction in the state. However, unfortunately, the potential of the region to attract the tourists has not been fully tapped so far. The region has a rich historical and cultural legacy and a major heritage centre.
Dotted with monuments and historical evidences, the Kalyana Karnataka region was ruled by the Rashtrakutas, Chalukyas, Bahamani dynasty and the Nizamto convert the Kalyan Karnatak region and these rulers have left behind heritage sites including forts, palaces and other evidences of the past, but these heritage sites are not properly maintained or preserved when compared to other regions.
Mr Sravan said that foremost importance should be accorded for the preserving and protecting the heritage sites to make the Kalyana Karnataka region as a major tourist attraction. Proper projection of the tourist potential and the identification of the tourist important sites should be made and popularized among the tourist agencies who promote tourism among the people of other region. He said to convert Kalyana Karnataka region as a major tourist destinationa dedicated team of well trained tourist guides and other stake holders like the Tourism companies and agencies and the hospitality industry played a pivotal role.
He said that even the locals in Kalaburagi city are not aware that more than 52 species of rare birds have been sighted in Sharanabasaveshwar Lake in the heart of the city and some of these bird species regularly travel from far off countries like Russia and other countries. Kalyana Karnataka region has the potential to be included in the Buddhist circuit of the country and pointed out that the only sculpture of King Ashoka and his queen is excavated from the ruins of a Buddhist site in Sannati in Chitapur taluk in Kalaburagi .
Similarly, Mr Sravan said that the promotion of millets by the Union Government as staple food now can be used as a tourism potential by the Kalyana Karnataka region since the region is traditionally known for consumption of millets and culinary habits of the region can be promoted and projected to attract the tourist from other regions of the country.
