Mr Justice Shivaraj Patil conferred prestigious Dasoha Jnana Ratna Award
KALABURAGI; The Chairperson of the Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha Matoshri Dr Dakshayini Avvaji conferred the prestigious Dasoha Jnana Ratna Award on former Supreme Court Judge Mr Justice Shivaraj Patil and his wife Smt Annapurna at a colourful function in Kalaburagi city on Friday. Award carries commendation certificate and a Gold Medal.
Presenting the award Dr Dakshayini Avvaji said that this day was an auspicious day in which the “Uchchayi” ceremony of drawing the small Ratha to mark the death anniversaries of the successive Peetathipathi’s of the Sharanabasaveshwar Samasthan and the Sharanabasaveshwar Samasthan felt honoured to present this award to Mr Justice Shivaraj Patil and his wife who were ardent devotees of 18th Century Saint and Social reformer Lord Sharanabasaveshwar.
She said the life and contributions of Mr Justice Shivaraj Patil to the society should be lesson to all the people and noted that Mr Justice Shivaraj Patil’s life was guided by the blessings of Lord Sharanabasaveshwar and said that those who had the belief in Lord Sharanabasaveshwar never failed in their life. “Like the life of Mr Justice Shivaraj Patil, my life is also guided by the blessings of Lord Sharanabasaveshwar……from an ordinary housewife I have been honoured with the post of Chairperson of the Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha and honoured with two honorary doctorates by the Davanagere University and the Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Womens University”.
In his acceptance speech, the 84 year old Mr Justice Shivaraj Patil dwelled in deep on how he became the ardent devotee of Lord Sharanabasaveshwar beginning at the young age of 17 and how the Sharanabasaveshwar Samasthan and the free food provided in the Dasoha Mane in the Sharanabasaveshwar Shrine complex helped him in his difficult days to pursue his college education. I have received many awards and honorary doctorate awards in my life but the Dasoha Jnanaratna award I received today is the best of all the awards I have received.
“My bondage with the Sharanabasaveshwar Samasthan which began at the age of 17 has continued till this day….I was in a predicament of how to stay in Kalaburagi and pursue my college education and then the Sharanabasaveshwar Samasthan came to my rescue and I was admitted in the hostel run by the Samasthan at a nominal cost and the Dasoha Mane satiated my hunger till my completion of college education”.
Mr Justice Patil said that at every crucial juncture of his life Lord Sharanabasaveshwar guided him on the right path, “When I decided to shift my practice of law from Kalaburagi to Bengaluru, I sought the devine advise of Lord Sharanabasaveshwar and through a draw of lot in the sanctum sanctrom of the Shrine I got the green signal to shift my base to Bengaluru which ultimately proved crucial in my life and helped me to become a Judge of the High Court and later my elevation as the Supreme Court Judge”.
Mr Justice Patil also released four books published by the Publication Wing of the Sharnbasva University including the “Kalyana Karnataka Sharana Sampada”, “Kalyana Karnataka Sahitya Sanchaya”, ‘Kalyana Karnataka Shoda Sanchana” and “Mahadasohi Mathu Mahamana”. A cheue of Rs 11 lakhs for establishing the Mr Justice Shivaraj Patil Chair in the Sharnbasva University was handed over to Matoshree Dr Dakshayini Avvaji by Prof Chennareddy Patil. Secretary of the Sangha Mr Basavaraj Deshmukh presided over the function, prof Kalyanrao patil welcomed.
Prominent among others present included President of the Dr. Shivaraj Patil Foundation Mr. S M Reddy, Vice Chancellor of the University Dr Niranjan V Nisty, Registrar Dr Anilkumar Bidave, Dean Dr Lakshmi Patil Maka, registrar (Evaluation) Dr S H Honnalli, Finance Officer Dr. Kiran Maka and others.
