Inauguration of Kalyana Vana project
KALABURAGI: the Kalyana Vana project was inaugurated in the Central University of Karnataka. This is a tree plantation project initiated by Bodhi Vruksha society in collaboration with Central University of Karnataka and the Forest Department, Kalaburgi.
The University in its efforts to create a green campus, has whole heartedly welcomed the project and offered the space. Kalyana Vana is a project to increase green cover of the campus and gradually convert the University into self-sustainable in water and natural resources. The Bodhi Vruksha society will take up plantation process and will nurture the saplings until it is self-reliant. In the first phase 5000 saplings will be planted. The involvement of experts ensures planting of trees appropriate for this natural setting and its further care.
Shashil G. Namoshi, MLC, the chief guest of the program, in his remarks cherished CUK’s initiation to make the campus green wherever the place is open, suggested to make strategies, and called for everyone to take obligation to plant trees.Recommending the same in his presidential remarks Hon’ble Vice chancellor briefed the road map of green campus in CUK. Highlighting on greenhouse effect not only planting trees for greenery in the campus, planting fruit yield plants, which students and staff can enjoy. He also suggested the prospects of planting timber efficient trees in future. He advised “Planting, Watering and protecting the trees” until they survive on their own.
Mr. Chandrashekar Hema, Assistant Conservator Forest, recalledefforts of forest departmentsince 2013 that nearly25000 saplings have been planted in the campus and 95% of them survived. He alsoacknowledgedthe University for its persistent support to their staff to maintain greenery in the campus.
President of Bodhi Vruksha society, Mr. M.S. Chandra, mentioned that Kalyana Vana in CUK campus is a seed project and further, such initiatives will be expanded to every district of Kalyana Karnataka region. Since plants or nature is source for human welfare, we named it Kalyana Vana. As nature is the life force of human culture, its protection is the only way to preserve the culture and civilized society.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Basavaraj P. Donur expressed that the trees and green environment will enhance the quality of education. He said a well nurtured person may betray but nurtured tree alwaysgivesus pure air, cool shadow and fruits in return.
Teaching and non-teaching staff of the University, students, forest department officials and local nature enthusiasts were present.
