Poetry Reading Programme at KBNU
Kalaburagi: A poetry reading programme was held in the Department of English at Khaja Bandanawaz University on Wednesday. Prof. Nishat Arif Hussaini, Dean, Faculty of Languages was invited as the Chief Guest of the programme.
The aim of the event was to promote a culture of poetry reading among students and faculty members. Students from the Department of English recited poems of their choice. The theme of the selected poems was Contemporary Poetry.
There was an interview of a senior poet Prof. Nishat who writes on a wide variety of subjects. Her poems have been published in many anthologies and magazines. Prof. Nishat expressed the need of poetry in our lives and explained about the process of writing poetry. The audience also got an opportunity to interact with her.
Recitation by students: Bushra read “Luminol” by Kamala Das, “Hunger” by Shahbaz Jayantha Mahapatra, Iqra and Shabra recited “Missing Person” by Adil Jussawala and “The Bus” by Arun Kolatkar respectively.
Asst Professor from the Department of Urdu, Dr. Maimuna Saradgi, Asst Professors from the Department of English, Dr. Athiya Sultana and Dr. Zainab read their own poems.
Dr. Zainab welcomed the Chief Guest and explained the significance of contemporary poetry. Asst Professor, Department of English, Mohammed Shujauddin Safi interviewed the guest. Dr. Athiya Sultana proposed the vote of thanks.
Students and professors of all departments were present in the programme.
