Conservation of Heritage Sites opens new avenues of opportunities for Architects: Satishbabu Deshmukh

KALABURAGI;  Senior Conservative Architect Dr Satish babu Deshmukh said that the conservation of the heritage sites and buildings is a specialization in the study of Architecture and it provides world of opportunities  for the students in the academic activities and professional avenues.

Delivering a lecture on “Training in Conservation of Heritage Sites” to the students of the Architecture Department in Sharnbasva University in Kalaburagi City on Sunday, Mr Deshmukh said that the conservation of Heritage sites is a emerging area of specialization in architecture and explained the intricacies involved in identifying the different heritage sites and the minute details involved in taking up the conservation activities.

Mr Deshmukh said that there were different types of heritage sites, including Natural Heritage like the Valley of Flowers in Chamoli in Uttarakhand in Himalayan Region, Built Heritages like the Ancient Temples, Palaces, Buildings of yesteryears, forts and other ancient built structures, and Mixed heritage sites like the Angkot Wat Cambodia consisting of a built structure of Buddhist Temples and Natural vegetation and hillocks surrounding the Angkot Wat.

He said that the Architects taking up the restoration activities should ensure the historical and cultural and aesthetic significance of these structures or the natural heritage sites is retained to its original form.

Mr Deshmukh said that the latest advance in the field of Conservation of Heritage sites is the advent of the Artificial Intelligence and the architects specialized in the conservation aspect have started using the AI to recreate the original forms of the heritage sites, which due to the vagaries of the weather and manmade destruction were in a state of ruins, before taking up the reconstruction and conservation of these sites.

Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Dr Shreelakshmi Kowtal, Senior Faculty Dr Suresh Patil, Prof Farida Tabassum, Prof Goutam Biradar and others were present.
