Matoshree Dr Dakshayini Avvaji stresses the decisive role played by women in all fields and were no less when compared to their men counterpart
KALABURAGI; Chairperson of the Sharnabasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha Dr Dakshayini Avvaji said that the women were no less important than their men counterparts and said that the women from time immemorial had played a decisive and equal role in all fields of development and every walk of life.
Speaking after honouring women achievers in different fields for their immense contribution in their respective fields on the occasion of the 54th Punya Smarana of Matoshree Godutai Doddappa Appa and the International Women’s Day organized by the Sharnbasva University in Kalaburagi City on Saturday, Dr Avvaji said that in India the women have been placed on high pedestal and recognized as a creator and as a symbol of power (shakti). “Women are not weak as it is projected ….. time and again the women have exhibited their undying spirit to perform well prove to the world that they were not weak of inferior to their counterparts”.
Dr Avvaji said that the Sharanabasaveshwar Samasthan and the Sharnabasveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha have played a decisive role in the educational empowerment of the women and the educational institutions run by the Sangha and the Sharnbasva University has opened many avenues of gainful employment and respect to the women who were working in different parts of the world in different capacities.
She said that the educational institutions run by the Sangha stands as a classic example for the educational empowerment of the women and being women centric by providing ample opportunity for the women in the appointment of teaching and non teaching staff in the educational institutions and University.
She said that 7th Peetadhipathi of the Samasthan Dr Doddappa Appa sowed the seeds of the educational empowerment of the students, more particularly the women, in 1930s by opening the Mahadevi Girls Kannada medium School, which was the first Kannada Medium School in the region, which was ruled by the Nizam braving the stiff resistance of the Nizam government and successfully running the school against all odds. This school provided opportunities for the girl students to overcome “Pardah” system enforced by the Nizam and pursue their education in safer atmosphere.
Dr Avvaji said that 8th Peetadhipathi of the Samasthan Poojya Dr Sharnbaswappa Appaji who took over the mantle from his father Dr Doddappa Appaji continued the good work and opened more number of educational institutions and established the Sharnbasva University to make the Kalaburagi city as an Educational Hub”. “From a mere 30 students in that school then, the strength of the students has grown to more than 30,000 in all the educational institutions run by the Sangha and the University now. More than 60 per cent of the students of the total 30,000 plus students were girls”.
Dr Avvaji said that the Sharnbasva University and the Educational Institutions run by the Sangha have contributed immensely for the educational empowerment of the women and opened many avenues of employment to the girl students and pointed out that 60 per cent of the teaching staff were women in the educational institutions run by the Sangha and University. She congratulated the staff of the Godutai Engineering College for women which is now known as Faculty of Science and Technology (Exclusively Women) for being recognized as the “Best Engineering College for women in India” by country’s premier Engineering institution Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE).
Earlier, Smt Shakuntala Durgi, a renowned teacher was presented the Matoshree Godutai Avva Award along with Dr Bhagyasree Patil who was presented Stree Ratna award, Smashree Benee, a women entrepreneur was presented Stree Shakti award, Social Activist Smt Shailaja Tapalli was presented Veer Mahile ward, Classical Dancer Smt Sandhya Bhat presented Kayaka Ratna Award and Dr Shreedevi Kalyan was presented Women Excellence Award on the occasion of the International Women’s Day celebrations.
Smt Shridevi Anand, Chief Account Officer of the Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation delivered Chief Guest Address. Secretary of the Sangha Mr Basavaraj Deshmukh and Smt Shakuntala Durgi spoke on the occasion. Vice Chancellor Prof Anilkumar Bidve presided over. Dr Lakshmi Patil Maka welcomed and Prof Sujata Mallapur proposed vote of thanks.
