Appaji recalls contribution of Samasthan for Kannada and its protection in the region

KALABURAGI;  Chancellor of the Sharnbasva University and Mahadasohi  Poojya Dr Sharnbaswappa Appaji has said that the Sharanbasaveshwar Samasthan had played a pivotal role in the protection and empowerment of Kannada and Empowerment of women by promoting education to women.

Recalling the contribution of the Sharnbasaveshwar Samasthan for the protection of Kannada braving the onslaught of Hindi, Marathi and Urdu languages and providing a window of opportunity for the people of erstwhile Hyderabad Karnataka region to pursue their educational dreams in Kannada language by starting Kannada medium educational institutions.

In his recorded online message on the occasion of Karnataka Rajyotsava Day  and the observation of the Third Birthday celebrations of 9th Peetathipathi of the Sharnbasaveshwar Samasthan Chiranjivee Doddappa Appaji on Sunday at the Conference hall of the Sharnbasva University in Kalaburagi city, Dr Appaji, who is also the President of the Sharnbasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha and 8th Peetathipathi of the Sharnabasaveshwar Samasthan, said that it was few individuals and the Veershaiva Lingayat mutts like the Bhalki Samasthan Mutt and freedom fighter Sri Ramanananda Theertha and others waged an unrelenting struggle against all odds to protect Kannada in the Kannada speaking areas under the Nizam regime, which promoted Urdu as medium of instruction. The Marathi and Hindi had a large influence and presence in the region due to its borders with the Marathi and Hindi speaking areas.

Poojya Dr Appaji said that besides this the Kalayana Karnataka region had contributed immensely for the enrichment of the Kannada language by gifting the first Kannada prose “Kaviraja Marga” and other literature from time immemorial.

Inaugurating the Rajyotsava Day Celebrations and the Birth Day celebrations of Chiranjivee Doddappa Appaji by cutting a cake ceremoniously, Head of the Srisailam’s Sarangamutt Poojya Jagadguru Dr Sarangadhara Deshikendra Mahaswamigalu said that the 12th Social Reformers  from the Kalayana Karnataka region led by Mahatma Basaveshwar had enriched Kannada language with their Sharana Sahitya which has remained unmatched in its simplicity in delivering the message to the people.  The Dasoha Sutras penned by Poojya Dr Sharnbaswappa Appaji was a feather in the cap of the Kannada literature.

On the birthday celebrations of Chiranjivee Doddappa Appaji, The Mahaswamiji said that he was fortunate to be part of the coronation of Sri Chiranjiveer Doddappa Appaji and said that the coronation of Doddappa Appaji was a momentus occasion for the entire Kalayana Karnataka region.

Registrar of the Sharnbasva University Dr Anilkumar Bidve in his address said that the year 2017 was an important year and it was in this year both Chiranjivee Doddappa Appaji was born and  the Sharnbasva University came into existence.

By coincidence the first Kannada Medium School was established in the year 1934 by 7th Peetathipathi of the Samasthan Poojya Doddappa Appaji and in the same year Poojya Dr Sharnbaswappa Appaji was also born. Both the year 1934 and 2017 would be written in the golden words in the annals of the Sharnabasaveshwar Samasthan and the University.

Dean of the University Dr Lakshmi Patil Maka, Dr Shivaraj Shastri Heruru and Mr Sunil Banshetty were felicitated for their achievements on the occasion.  Dr Lakshmi Patil Maka was the recipient of Kittur Rani Chennamma Award,  Dr Shivaraj Patil Heruru had won the Rajyotsava Award conferred by Gulbarga University  for his book in Kannada “Divyanga Deepti”, and Mr Sunil Banshetty has been nominated by the government as a member of Board of Governors of Sharnbasva University.

Dean of Kannada Department Dr M S Patil delivered a special lecture on Rajyotsava Day and its importance and Dr Sarika Devi Kalagi of the Kannada Department delivered a special lecture of Chiranjeevi Doddappa Appaji.
