Speaking after felicitating and honouring Engineers and Teachers on the occasion of Engineers Day and Teachers Day celebrated jointly by the Sharnbasva University in Kalaburagi city on Thursday, Mr Deshmukh said that Mr Visvesvaraya’s life itself is a model for every individual to follow. Hailing from a poor family, he struggled all the way to become the luminary of the entire country.
He said that like the Visionary Educationist Mahadasoha Peetathipathi of the Sharanabasaveshwar Samasthan Poojya Dr Sharnbasbaswappa Appaji who had converted the once educationally backward Kalyana Karnataka region into a major educational hub, Sir Visvesvarayya was primarily responsible for the educational development of the Mysore province. Sir Visvesvarayya who was also the Diwan of the Mysore province had started many educational institutions in Mysore region and this enabled the Mysore region to march ahead of other regions including the Bombay Karnataka and Kalyana Karnataka regions of the state in the educational empowerment of the people.
Besides constructing many dams including the famed Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam in Mysuru across River Cauvery, which is the backbone of the economic activity of the old mysuru region and meeting the drinking water requirement of Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mandya and many other major towns and hundreds of villages, Mr Deshmukh said that Sir Visvesvaraya was also consulted by other states throughout the country for designing many Dams and drainage systems in many cities. The then Nizam of Hyderabad province had also sought the expertise of Sir Visvesvaraya to design the drainage system of the entire Hyderabad and Secunderabad cities in Telangana.
