Multidisciplinary Research is the need of the hour: JNU VC
KALABURAGI; The Vice Chancellor of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Prof Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit said that the multidisciplinary approach both in pursuing the educational goals and furthering the knowledge through multidisciplinary research activities.
Speaking after inaugurating the three-day International Conference on Multidisciplinary research organized by the Sharnbasva University at Poojya Basavarajappa Appa Memorial Hall in Kalaburagi city to commemorate the 53rd Birthday of Chairperson of the Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha Matoshree Dr Dakshayini Avvaji on Tuesday, Prof Pandit said that from the time immemorial the country was forefront in the dispensation of knowledge and pursuing the path of research for fine tuning the knowledge acquired.
She said that the days of compartmentalization of the education with the Universities offering specialized courses only of their choice was over and the era of holistic multidisciplinary approach in education has come into place now.
She lauded the initiative taken by the Sharnbasva University of adopting the multidisciplinary approach offering the courses in almost all the subjects from Music, Arts, Languages, Social Sciences to the professional courses, and noted that the Sharnbasva University had adopted the multidisciplinary approach in offering the courses to the students even before the recommendations of the same nature was made in the New Education Policy.
Prof Pandit said that like the vision of Rabindranath Tagore who had introduced fine arts, music and languages in the Santiniketan, visionary educationist Mahadasoha Peetathipathi of the Sharanabasaveshwar Samasthan Poojya Sharnbaswappa Appaji had introduced Post Graduate studies in fine arts and music long back even before the establishment of the Sharnbasva University and made the University a truly a multidisciplinary University in the private sector by introducing almost all the subjects.
Prof Pandit said that organizing the three-day international conference was part of the efforts by the University to support the initiatives of the government to take the higher education to the next step forward and said that the multidisciplinary research had a very good Indian connect with modernity.
Congratulating the Chairperson of Sharnbasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha Matoshree Dr Dakshyani Avvaji on her 53rd Birthday today, Prof Pandit said Dr Dakshayini Avvaji was the symbol of women empowerment .
Vice Chancellor of the University Dr Niranjan V Nisty in his presidential remarks said that the multi disciplinary approach and thinking was very important in academic activities of the Universities and Poojya Appaji was a fine example of multi disciplinary approach in thinking and introducing courses of different hues from literature to fine arts at the post graduate level initially and later in the Sharnbasva University, In a word of advise to the students he said that the present world belongs to those who pursue learning and who consider learning as a continuous process.
Dr. Jerry chun-Wei Lin from Norway Delivered Key-Note address. Secretary of the Vidya Vardak Sangha Mr Basavaraj Deshmukh spoke on the occasion. IETE President Dr. Gunashekhara Reddy also spoke on the occasion. Registrar of the University Dr Anilkumar Bidve welcomed and Dean Dr Lakshmi Patil Maka made introductory remarks about the conference.
