‘World Heritage Week’ Celebration Inaugurated at CUK
Kalaburagi: “Preserving our history, heritage and culture for future generation is very important, because it teaches important lessons to the mankind. To protect our history, heritage and culture we need to study it” said Prof. BattuSatyanarayana, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, CUK.
He was speaking on the occasion of inauguration ‘World Heritage Week’ celebration organized by Department of History and Archaeology, Central University of Karnataka, Kalaburagi. Earlier to this he has also inaugurated the Archaeological, Numismatic, Monuments Replica,Poster exhibition on world heritage sites made by the students of Department of History & Archaeology, CUK.
Dr.Longshibeni N. Kithan, Assistant Professor, Department of Folklore and Tribal Studies, delivered a special lecture on Living With Climate Change: Interconnectedness, Dilemma and Possibilities and said “climate changeis adversely impacting on cultural heritage and living cultural traditions and practices. She quoted examples like tattooing, agricultural practices, herbal medicine practices from the North Eastern region of India.”
Earlier to this Dr.Remya V.P., Coordinator, Department of History & Archaeology delivered introductory remarks and said “World heritage Week is observed every year in November by UNESCO.
The Week long observation is intended to create awareness about the importance of heritage and its preservation. Every year UNESCO identify themes to focus for the celebrations and this year’s theme is Heritage and Climate. In line with the UNESCO’s initiative, theDepartment of History & Archaeology has organised a 4-day long celebration of World Heritage Week from 22nd to 25th November, 2022.Many competitions, like quiz, photography for students on the theme are being organised at the department. The celebrations will conclude on 25th with a Heritage Walk to the heritage monuments of Gulbarga city.”
Registrar, Prof. BasavarajP.Donur and Dean of School of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Prof. Channaveer R.M also spoke on the occasion. Deans, Heads, Faculty members, students and research scholars were present.
