Glowing tributes paid to Senior Journalist M Madanmohan

KALABURAGI;  Former Resident Editor of the Samyukta Karnataka Mr Srikantachari Mannur paid glowing tributes to  Senior Journalist M Madanmohan who breathed his last in Hubballi on Saturday after a brief illness and said that the world of Journalism has lost a clear headed and honest Journalist in the death of Mr Madanmohan.

Speaking at a condolence meeting organized in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication in Sharnbasva University in Kalaburagi on Sunday, Mr Mannur who was a close associate of Mr Madanmohan said that the departed Journalist had groomed many Journalist including himself during his life time and was a walking encyclopedia of information.

Mr Mannur said that Mr Madanmohan’s integrity to the profession was matchless and was an ideal for all the budding journalists on how to prepare himself to attend a press conference and how to frame questions in the press conferences and how to elicit information from the politicians through probing questions.

Dean of the Social Sciences Faculty in the Sharnbasva University Mr T V Sivanandan in his address recalled how he was groomed by Mr Madanmohan during his stay as a journalist in Hubballi in 1980s and dwelled in detail the close relation with Mr Madanmohan till his last breath. “Mr Madanmohan was a fatherly figure for me, he was responsible for what I am today in the life and was instrumental in making me a Journalist”.

He said that Mr Madanmohan was an authority on almost all the aspects of Journalism and he was considered as the expert in the Panchayat Raj institutions and the series of articles on Panchayat Raj institutions written by Mr Madanmohan and published prominently in The Hindu  had become the leading light for the then Ramakrishna Hegde Government’s decision to introduce the panchayat raj system in the state on the lines of panchayat raj institutions in West Bengal.

Mr Sivanandan said that Mr Madanmohan who joined The Hindu in 1956 as a correspondent in Belgaum had the honour of covering the events preceding the liberation of Goa and had covered all the general elections till his retirement and was a mine of information on all the major events took place in North Karnataka during his long stint as Journalist. He was also a close associate of late Mr Patil Puttappa and his articles on Gokak agitation in North Karnataka and the border dispute between Karnataka and Maharashtra over Belagaum strengthened the cause of Kannada and Karnataka government.

Mr S S Hiremath a close associate of Mr Madanmohan said that he had the opportunity of spending some quality time with Mr Madanmohan whenever he visited Gulbarga for official purpose and said that he was a perfect journalist and a complete gentleman to the core.  Correspondent of The Hindu newspaper Mr Praveen Para was also present. Chairperson of the Journalism and Mass Communication Dr Sunita Patil compered.
