Combining Fundamentals with Engineering would result in productive research and project works
KALABURAGI; The Secretary of the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST)Prof Ashok M Raichur, who is also a Professor in the Department of Materials Engineering in the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, said combining the fundamentals with engineering would result in the productive research and projects to find a solution to different problems.
Delivering the Chief Guest address at the inaugural function of the 2-day 47th Series Student Project Programme (SPP) Annual State-Level Poster Presentation and Project Exhibition in the main campus of the Sharnbasva University in Kalaburagi city on Friday, Prof Raichur said that the KSCST always promoted and supported all the project proposals which provided stress on providing solutions to the fundamental problems.
Dwelling in detail about the SPP and how the KSCST had been providing its help to the budding technocrats and scientists in their innovative project works, Prof Raichur in a piece of advise to the students said that their research project should focus on finding a solution to the local problems and problems faced by the state. “The projects presented by the students should find a solution to the problems of the society and local community”. The students and the scientific community has a onerus responsibility of giving something back to the society.
He said that there was a need for research projects on finding a permanent solution to the Solid Waste Management in the smaller cities. Although there was planned Solid Waste Management in the bigger cities, finding a permanent solution to this problem remained insurmountable in the bigger cities and the situation in the smaller cities is still worse. “For a sustainable living in the semi urban and urban areas there was need for more research work on the Solid Waste Management”.
Stressing the need for Inter-disciplinary approach in the field of engineering, Prof Raichur said that there should not be any barriers for the students to combine their study and conduct combined research with students of other faculties in the engineering stream. This approach would give scope for using the expertise in one department with another to produce a good research work for the benefit of the society.
