21-day Induction Programme for the Undergraduate students inaugurated in Sharnbasva University
KALABURAGI; Eminent Psychiatrist and Motivational Speaker Dr Anand Pandurangi has stressed the need for establishing functional counseling centre in all the educational institutions to provide timely assistance and counseling to the students in distress and lead them to the right path during their academic career.
Speaking after inaugurating 21-day long Deeksharamba (Induction programme) for the fresher who joined various undergraduate programmes in the Sharnbasva University during the current academic year at the Doddappa Appa Auditorium in the main campus of the University on Sunday, Dr Pandurangi said that establishing functional counseling centres with trained counselors would help in finding solutions to all the nagging problems faced by the students in the initial stages and put them back on the right path in their academic journey.
Dr Pandurangi said that around 20 per cent of the youth below the age group of 20 face one or the other psychological issues and these issues needs to be nipped in the bud in the interests of the future of these youngsters. In a word of advise to the jam-packed students in the auditorium, Dr Pandurangi said that stress was integral part of the life and those who know how to the manage the stress will achieve success in the life. “Managing stress is an art and by diverting your attention more towards academic activities you can achieve mastery in managing stress:.
He said that many studies have proved that without stress in the life one cannot bring out his or her creativity and productivity. The stress in the life can be overcome through many ways including practicing meditation, yoga, music and other creative activities. On the incidence of substance abuse among the students, He said that the youth should think twice before falling victim to the substance abuse and should act wise to lead a safe life.
Referring to the common issues faced by every youth during their adolescent age of getting attracted to so many things, Dr Pandurangi said that attractions during the adolescent age is normal, but these attractions should be converted into creativity and constructive to achieve success in the academic life. Every single youth should have a burning desire to achieve success and something in the life and this desire to achieve should be kept alive throughout the academic career for a better professional career.
Dr Pandurangi said that every student should have an aim and vision before starting his academic career in a centre of higher education and this aim and vision should be achieved with some hard work and commitment. The students while giving importance to physical health should also give equal importance to his and her mental, social and spiritual health which would equally contribute in the success of one’s academic career.
Secretary of the Sharnabasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha Mr Basavaraj Deshmukh in his address said that every single student should consider the life and achievements of Sir M Visvesvaraya, whose birthday today is celebrated as Engineers Day, as a role model in their life. He said that the portals of Sharnbasva University provided all the required facilities and modern teaching aids including state of art laboratories to act as a perfect launch pad for the students to achieve success in their academic career.
Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Anilkumar Bidve presided over and Dean of the University Dr Lakshmi Patil Maka welcomed the fresher’s to the University and highlighted the facilities available in all the departments. Registrar Dr S G Dollegoudar spoke the importance of the induction programme. The University also observed the Engineers Day on the occasion. Prominent among others present in the function included Registrar Evaluation Dr S H Honnalli, Dean (Engineering Technology) Dr Shivakumar Javalagi, Dean (Research) Dr Sujatha Mallapure were present.
