CUK organised eight day International webinar

Kalaburagi: The Department of English, School of Humanities and Languages, Central University of Karnataka has organised an eight day International webinar on the topic ‘Global/native Shakespeares’, which begins from21st September 2020.

Prof. T.V. Kattimani,Vice-Chancelllor, Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh inaugurated the webinar. Prof.H M Maheshwaraiah, Vice- Chancellor, Central University of Karnataka, chaired the opening session. Prof. G.R. Naik ,Pro Vice- Chancellor, Central University of Karnataka and Prof. Rajendra Chenni, former professor of English, Kuvempu university, Shimoga, Karnataka, were the chief guests for the webinar while Prof. Musthaq Ahmed I. Patel was the guest of honour.The webinar progressed in the presence of Prof. Basavaraj P.Donur, Head Department of English and Dean, school of Humanities, Central University of Karnataka, Kalburgi.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Kattimani emphasized on the importance of the languagein William Shakespeare’s plays. Prof. Rajendra Chenni, in his inaugural speech, elaborated upon the Shakespeare’s reach, as a playwright, across the globe.

The morning session of the webinar began with the talk, The Tempest : As Rest of the World Reads It, delivered by Prof. Rajendra Chenni. In his erudite talk,Prof. Chennihas elaborate upon the rereading and reworking of William Shakespeare’s play, The Tempest, from the post colonial perspective. In his insightful talk , prof. Chennireferred to variousresponses, especiallycultural , political and textual,to Shakespeare’s The Tempest, from the post colonial world.

Prof. Chennisuccessfully tried to emphasize the relevance and the importance of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest in post colonial world and literature as well.

The talk was followed by the Q&A session.Dr. Renuka L. Nayak compered the session.The session was graced by the presence of Prof.Nagaraju, Mr. Mahendra M., DR. Mahima Raj C. and other faculty members of the department of English.Dr. Prakash Balikai, Asst. Professor, Dept. English, Central university of Karnataka, proposed the vote of thanks. The session ended cheerfully.
