Two Karnataka Ministers -Dr Sharan Prakash Patil and N. S. Boseraju reiterates demand for AIIMS in Raichur
New Delhi,: Two Karnataka ministers – Dr Sharan Prakash Patil, minister for Medical Education who is also incharge minister for Raichur district and N. S. Boseraju minister for Minor irrigation on Wednesday called on Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya and urged him to establish AIIMS in Raichur.
Emerging out of the meeting, Dr Sharan Prakash Patil said the demand for AIIMS in Raichur is long pending and only couple of states including Karnataka in the country has not been given the premier institution, an agitation has been going on for the past 636 days in Raichur demanding AIIMS.
“I, along with minister Boseraju explained to the Union Health Minister the developmental revolution in backward Kalyana Karnataka region that will trigger following the setting up of AIIMS,” Dr Patil added.
He further said Karnataka is hopeful that the Centre will announce the establishment of AIIMS at Raichur before the closure of the current parliament session.
Minister Boseraju who is also spearheading the movement for AIIMS told reporters that Raichur has been categorized as Karnataka’s one of the backward area and it was necessary to set up premier health institution in the region.
“This will foster comprehensive development of the entire region. Raichur lags behind in all aspects including healthcare though it has been brought under Article 371J. Infact, Dr D. M. Nanjundappa committe had recommended establishing of premier health institution,” Boseraju added.
He further said that the state government had agreed to provide logistics and infrastructure for establishing AIIMS in Raichur. The minister expressed optimism that the Centre will take a positive stance on this subject at the earliest.
