Two-day Virtual International Conference inaugurated in CUK

KALABURAGI: ‘I am delighted to see that three institutions have come together to organized this event of International Virtual Conference. I personally congratulate the department and all the faculties involved and especially the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Central University of Karnataka to organize the international conference at its second year of establishment. I appreciate the convenor of the conference Dr. Rupa Rani Sonowal for taking this initiative’ Said Prof. M V Alagavadi, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (In-Charge), Central University of Karnataka.

He was speaking after declaring the conference open at Virtual International Conference on ‘Identity: Myths, Memories, Communication and Cultural Narratives’ organized by Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Central University of Karnataka along with SVKM’s Usha Pravin Gandhi College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Mumbai and St. Anthony’s College, Shillong. The theme of the conference aptly describes the need to understand the place of communication in culture, in identity and in myth. The relationship between culture and communication, in all its forms, is tightly interwoven, interlinked and particularly assigning meaning to its history. He added.

Sangeeta Bagga Gupta, Professor – Chair, School of Education and Communication, Jonkoping University, Sweden delivered her Key note address on ‘On Myths and Experiences of the mobile human condition Belongings to land and language’. In her address she said ‘ As a researchers we need to critically, reflectively and seriously embrace our humanness and experiences of being human in our research explorations. Reflexive critical viewing on what is happening around us needs to be complimented with how our life has been in the past in our locations, including the locations which we have not experienced. She said.

Followed by the inauguration there was a paper presentation panwl followed by the plenary session. In this session Dr.Dolly Kikon spoke about ‘Narratives of nationalism and identity through memories and oral narratives, myths in cultural narratives, Intercultural communication and identity. Dr. Bukey Akgun delivered lecture on ‘Comics and Cultural narratives, Myths, memories and the graphic artist, identity through literature and the visual arts. Mr. Sushanva Deshpande spoke about Redefining the performing arts, post COVID-19, Exploring identity and culture through theatre, Role ofarts and art spaces post COVID-19, Artistes and conflict narratives Identity through literature and thevisual arts. Dr. Deirdre McLaughlinshared his views about Role of arts and art spaces post COVID-19, Redefining the performing arts, post COVID-19, Exploringidentity and culture through theatre, Artistes and conflict narratives. Dr. Jatin Srivastava spoke about Communication and the new normal, Narrative of technology in Education, The new media/digitalplatforms for cultural narratives, Datafication and/of identity.

Prof. Musthaq Ahemad I Patel, Registrar, Central University of Karnataka, Dr. Anju Kapoor, Principal, SVKM’s Usha Pravin Gandhi College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Mumbai, Rev. Br. Dr. Albert Longley Dkhar, Principal, St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, faculty members of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Scholars from around the world were present on the session.
