International Human Rights Day Celebrated at CUK
Kalburagi: “Supreme Court of India has played key role in the protection of women rights” said Jyotika Kalra, Member National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi. Yesterday she was speaking on the webinar “Breaking Silence: Women and Human Rights” jointly organized by Department of Law and IQAC, Central University of Karnataka and Adivakta Parishat, Karnataka the occasion of Celebration of International Human Rights Day.
She further said “still we are unable to achieve gender equality. Even today we can see very less representation of women in boards of many companies, higher positions, public sector enterprises and even in the legislative assemblies, parliament, high court and supreme court. Thanks to West Bengal and Odisha they have given 33% of seats in last Lok Sabha election and this time Lok Sabha has highest number of women representative since independence.” In continuation she said “thanks to the government of India for extending the maternity period and other work place facilities to address women issues. For the betterment of women there are many laws but they need to be implemented and practice in the true spirit and every one of us have the responsibility to do so.”
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. M V Alagawadi had presided over the program and said “we as a society have the collective responsibility of protecting women dignity and pride. We see women as daughter, sister, mother and goddess. Same should be practiced in the everyday conduct.”
On the occasion Registrar Prof. Mustaq Ahmed I Patel, convenors of the program Dr. Basavaraj Kubakaddi, Dr. Anant Chinchure, coordinator Department of Law Dr. Nazrul Bari were present.
