Maiden Convocation of Sharnbasva University on September 10
KALABURAGI; The First and Second Convocation of the Sharnbasva University would be held on the auspicious day of Ganesha Chaturthi on September 10 in Kalaburagi City.
Addressing a press conference in Kalaburagi city on Wednesday, Mahadasoha Peetadhipathi of the Sharnbasaveshwar Samasthan Poojya Dr Sharnbaswappa Appaji, who is also the Chancellor of the Sharnbasva University said that the Union Minister of state for Chemicals and Fertilizers Mr Bhagwant Khuba has consented to be the Chief Guest of the first and second convocation held simultaneously at the newly renamed Poojya Basavarajappa Appa Memorial hall at the Appa Public School complex in Kalaburagi City.
Poojya Appaji said that the Vice Chancellor of Davanagere University Dr Sharanappa V Halse and Vice Chancellor of the Gulbarga University Dr Dayananda Agasar has agreed to deliver the first and second convocation addresses respectively. Kalaburagi Lok Sabha MP Dr Umesh Jadhav and Chairman of the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board Mr Dattatreya Patil Revoor would be Guests of Honour on the occasion. Chairperson of the Sharnabasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha Matoshri Dr Dakshayini Avvaji would be present.
Poojya Appaji said that the maiden convocation of the Sharnbasva University was a historic occasion to him and all those who are associated with the Sharnbasva University, which is the dream child of the Sharnbasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha in particular and the people of the Kalyana Karnataka in general.
He said the University, which was established by a state act in 2012, started functioning from the academic year 2017 and for various reasons including the pandemic the annual convocation of the University could not be held till now and it has been decided now to hold the first and second convocation of the University for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 batches on September 10.
Poojya Appaji said that it has been decided to award three each honorary doctorate in the first and second convocation to eminent personalities who had immensely contributed in their respective fields and men of letters. In the first convocation
While former Supreme Court Judge and eminent jurist Justice Shri Shivaraj Patil, eminent educationist and former Minister Shyamanuru Shivashankarappa and former MP and eminent social activist and educationist Mr Basavaraj Patil Sedam would be honoured with honorary doctorate in the first convocation, Noted Educationist and Industrialist Sri B G Patil, MLC, Sh.Br. Poojya Sri Rajashekhar Shivaracharyaru of Choudapuri Hiremath, Kalaburagi for his contribution in the field of religion and social service, and noted Industrialist Sri Lingaraj S Patil would be presented the Honorary Doctorate in the second convocation.
Chairperson of the Sharnbasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha Matoshree Dakshyini Avvaji who was also present said that the University has also decided honour Dr Shivaraj Shastri Herur for his contribution in the field of Kannada Literature with D.Litt in the first convocation and Dr Neelambika Sherikar Police Patil and Dr S M Hiremath for their contribution in the field of Kannada literature with D.Litt in the second convocation.
While 20 Gold Medals would be given away for the meritorious students who stood first in their respective branches of 2017-18 batch, 352 post Graduate students would be presented their degrees in the first convocation. Another 22 students would be awarded gold medals for their achievements in their respective branches of the 2018-19 batch and 527 Post Graduate students would be presented their degrees in the second convocation.
Vice Chancellor Dr Niranjan Nisty briefly spoke about the highlights of the convocation and Registrar of the University Dr Anilkumar Bidve welcomed. Secretary of the Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha Mr Basavaraj Deshmukh, 9th Peetathipathi of the Sharanabasaveshwar Samasthan Chiranjivee Doddappa Appa, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr V D Mytri, Registrar Evaluation Dr Lingaraj Shastri, Deans Dr Lakshmi Patil Maka, and Dr Basavaraj Mathpathi, Finance Officer Prof Kiran Maka were among others who were present.
