Dr. Halse pleads for revival of Great Indian Tradition in the Education

KALABURAGI;  The Vice Chancellor of the Davanagere University Dr Sharanappa Halse has stressed the need for reviving the great Indian tradition in the education thought and practiced by the ancient Indian universities including Takshashila, Nalanda, Vallabhi and Vikramshila which had thousands of students from all over the world studying in Vibrant multidisciplinary environment.

Speaking after inaugurating through online mode the webinar organized by the Sharnbasva University on the occasion of birthday celebrations of Poojya Dr Sharnbaswappa Appaji, Chancellor of the Sharnbasva University, Matoshree Poojya Dr Dakshayini S Appa, Chairperson of the Sharnabasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha, and Poojya Chiranjeevi Doddappa Appaji, 9th Peetathipathi and heir apparent of Poojya Dr Appaji and as part of series of webinars on the National Education Policy (NEP) -2020 in Kalaburagi City, Dr Halse said that replicating the ancient Universities practicing great Indian tradition of education  would help the present day centres of higher education to create well-rounded and innovating individuals, who are already transforming other countries educationally and economically.

Dr Halse said that the main thrust of the  National Education Policy (NEP) regarding higher education was to end the fragmentation of  higher education by transorming higher education institutions into multi disciplinary universities, colleges and creating higher education education hubs and knowledge hubs and each of these institutions will have atlease 3000 students strength.

He said as per the NEP proposals by 2040 all the higher education institutions should aim to become  multidisciplinary institutions and shall aim to have larger student enrolment  for optimal use of infrastructure and resources, and for the creation of vibrant multidisciplinary communities. Dr hales said that University, worldwide, means a multidisciplinary instition of higher learning that offers undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D programmes and engaged in high quality teaching and research.

Dr Halse said that the NEP accorded high importance to multidisciplinary education in undergraduate colleges and in its one of the recommendation has said that the duration of the current three year bachelor’s programs in sciences and commerce be extended to four years with the first year devoted to the study of liberal arts subjects.  M”In the quickly changing employment landcape and global ecosystem, it is becoming increasingly critical that children not only learn, butmore importantly learn how  to earn.” Hence the education, must move towards less content and more towards learning about how to think critically and solve problems. How to to be creating and multi disciplinary.

He said that the visionary educatist Poojya Dr Sharnbaswappa Appaji had the vision about the multi disciplinary approach in education and had established the Sharnbasva University as a truly multidisciplinary university meeting all the requirements laid down by NEP-2020.

Secretary of the Sharnabasveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangh Mr Basawaraj Deshmukh  and Vice Chancellor Dr Niranjan V Nisty spoke on the occasion. Dr K S Malipatil, Prof in the Department of Social Work in the Gulbarga University, Dr GanapatiSnnoor, Assistant Prof in the school of business students at the central university of Karnataka, Registrar of the Sharnbasva University Dr Anil Kumar Bidve, and Registrar (Evaluation) Dr Lingraj Shastri spoke on the NEP-2020 and the contribution of Dr Appaji to the cause of  education and establishing the Sharnbasva University.
