ncreasing trash piles – pigs all around Bengaluru city – assign marshals to their original duty : Urges Janani Bharat

Bengaluru; Aam Aadmi Party leader Janani Bharat demanded that as the garbage black spots are on the rise, the BBMP hired marshals must be reassigned to their original duties of ensuring cleanliness in the city.

Speaking in a press conference held on Wednesday, she said that the BBMP marshals were hired to penalize people who throw trash on streets and to ensure there are no black spots. However, now the BBMP is asking them to focus on looting people for other reasons and they are not performing their actual duty.

According to a survey conducted by the Aam Aadmi Party, there are over 1038 black spots (piles of trash) in Bengaluru city. This has led to an enormous increase in mosquitos, pigs and street dogs in these areas. She mocked saying that Chief Minister Yediyurappa has kept the Bengaluru Development ministry for himself just to loot common people and not to punish the BBMP officials who are hands in glove with the garbage mafia.

BJP led state government is trying to favor the garbage mafia to a great extent. Originally there were 198 contractors, one for each BBMP ward, taking up the responsibility of solid waste management and waste disposal. This has now been reduced to 89 and hence the drastic increase in garbage black spots. With the number of dengue and chikungunya cases already on the rise in the city, is the BBMP’s intention to increase mosquitoes out of this garbage heaps and make people more sick? BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad and Administrative Officer Gaurav Gupta must give a clarification that why ₹ 600 is being collected from every house in the name of waste segregation cess.

Media coordinator Somashekhar said that even the nodal officers appointed at the ward level are not responding properly. These officers do not receive any calls and pay no attention to the photos of garbage black spots sent to them via WhatsApp message.

Number of pigs have increased enormously because of these garbage heaps. At this pace, it will soon become difficult to walk in the streets of Bengaluru.

He said that BBMP marshals should stop looting people and perform their basic duty for which they were originally appointed.
