Reading Newspapers regularly eases difficulty in cracking civil services examinations: Dr Ravikumar
KALABURAGI; The Commissioner of the Kalaburagi Police Commissionerate Dr Y S Ravikumar stressed the need for all those aspiring to appear in the civil services and competitive examinations to read newspapers regularly to keep abreast of latest information about the current affairs which would help in cracking civil service examinations conducted by the union and state governments.
Speaking after releasing the bi-lingual E-Paper “Exam Mastermind” published by Deccan Herald and Prajavani group in a function jointly organized by the Deccan Herald and Prajavani group and Departmentof Mass Communication and Journalism of the Sharnbasva University in Kalaburagi city on Tuesday, Dr Ravikumar recalling his own experience said that initially he had no confidence in appearing in the civil service examinations when he was studying medicine for the reason that he was studying a professional subject while the civil service examinations dealt with the general subject s.
“It is only after I started reading newspapers after completing MBBS, I started gaining some confidence that I can also appear in the civil service examinations and took it seriously and came out successfully in the civil service examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)”. Dr Ravikumar said that although the ready reckoners and digests published regularly containing the current affairs it cannot match the newspapers, which provided a detailed version of the current affairs which is helpful at the time of solving the general papers in the UPSC and successfully come out of the viva voce.
Dr Ravikumar said that the Indian Bureacracy played a very important role of maintaining continuity in the governance and the policies of the government irrespective the political parties coming to power. Because of its permanent nature, the bureaucracy, consisting of those selected in the civil service examinations, helped in maintaining coordination with all departments and maintaining consistency in policies, particularly the foreign policy and others.
IN a piece of advise to those aspiring to appear in the civil service examinations, Dr ravikumar said that they should make it a habit to read atleast two national newspapers to keep their knowledge about the national issues updated regularly and one regional newspapers to keep abreast of the regional issues which would come handy while appearing in the civil service examinations.
Vice Chancellor of the University Dr Niranjan V Nisty in his address said that those who decide to appear in the civil service examination should start preparing for the examination by continuously updating their knowledge from the day one of their decision to take on the civil service examination.
The Indian bureaucracy which plays an important role in the governance of the country, Dr Nisty said that has a crucial role to play now with the oountry on the cusp of becoming a super power to make the country economically powerful.
Secretary of the Sharnbasaveshwar Vidya Vardak Sagha Mr Basavaraj Deshmukh in his presidential address said that Mahadasoha Peetathipathi of the Sharanabasaveshwar Samasthan and Chancellor of the Sharnbasva University had started the IAS and IPS Coaching classes for the students of the educational institutions run by the Vidya Vardak Sangha and University long back.
Registrar of the University Dr Anilkumar Bidve also spoke on the occasion and Dean Dr.Lakshmi Patil Maka were present.
